Final 4!

GMU hoopsAre you kidding me? George Mason made it to the final four! Did anyone see the last 45 seconds of that game against Conneticut? This school has worked so hard to make it here for many years. I remember as a sophomore when they finished building the stadium and started making basketball a focus of the athletic department. We never had a real community feeling at the time as the school was primarily made up of commuters. The fraternity groups were the ties that bound for many people. It is … Continue Reading

Design Does Make A Difference

Another web design firm, Questus, polled 435 employed US residents over 18 and asked them what influenced their decision to buy from a website. What they found was their initial reaction to the site made a large impact. 43% agreed that a web site’s appearance will affect their decision-making on whether to trust or distrust the store and 25% strongly agreed with this. 25% of the respondents neither agreed nor disagreed.

My alma mater makes the Sweet 16

I am in no a way big basketball fan, since Michael Jordan left it’s lost it’s magic for me. That is until my alma mater, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, made it as the underdogs. Go Patriots!

Managing Your E-mail

Are you getting deluged with the constant questions? Mostly questions that you routinely have asked in prior emails to other customers? There are several options that you could use.

(1) Incorporate a Frequently Asked Questions section in your websites.

(2) Hire more first-level employees to handle customer questions and inquiries.

(3) My favorite, since I am a small business and cannot afford to hire more employees, is to utilize my Microsoft Outlook and create various signatures within File | Signatures section answering specific questions. I also create draft emails for when I have e-mails with attachments like my Web Development Workbook.

Changing the scope

Well, it’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been to London and New York since then but I believe the focus of my blog needs to change to reflect my web design and development interests as well; thus the blog title change from A Foreigner’s Travel to WebSpex. I will still post my travel thoughts and perceptions but I wanted to discuss various themes on web design for business owners as well.

I will be discussing various issues relating to web marketing trends and designing for target markets. Keep yourself posted for daily or weekly entries.
